Reason 154: Decorating!

Ignoring all adult-like responsibility to decorate for Christmas.

We got a live tree! It is small (5 feet) but perfect for our apartment! More pictures to come when decorating is complete!

Reason 152: National Championships

Saturday, November 19, 2011

This is where I am right now.  Congrats to the BYU Men's and Women's teams for qualifying for the National Championship!  We knew the men were coming, they automatically qualified by taking 1st place at the Mountain Region race.  The women, however, got pushed in by criteria points and all these other complicated things.  Regardless- here we are in Terre Haute!

To see the preview for the race, go here:

Getting here was kind of brutal.  Meet at BYU at 5 am, drive to SLC, fly to Denver, 2 hour layover, fly to Indy, LOOOONG drive to Terre Haute (road construction).  Thus the night ended in a severe migraine while trying to eat dinner at Texas Roadhouse.  Speaking of, our normal schedule of event on Cross Country trips is:
Travel
Run
Eat
Sleep

It is amazing how *little* time it seems like you have in a day when you sleep until 11 am.  Today for lunch we went to Grand Traverse Pie Company.  Yum.  Mediterranean (sp?) sandwich and some blackberry peach cobbler.  Then tonight we had the banquet with all of the schools.  Frank Shorter, the 1972 Olympic gold medalist in the marathon, was our speaker tonight.  So cool.  I wish I could still run as much as I did my sophomore year of college.

Tomorrow?  Nike tent, church, fireside, homework.  It is so hard to do homework when we travel.

Reason 151: Athletic Trainer

Tuesday, November 8, 2011.

Oh.. you're a trainer??
(NO! I'm an Athletic Trainer, not a trainer)
Oh, that's cool, I wanted to do that. What do you make?
 "WHAT DO I MAKE??"

I make an ankle sprain that some say should take four weeks to get your child back on the field, playable in a week

I can make driving in a golf cart with lights look cool.

I can make your rehab program after a total knee so you can run in that marathon you've always dreamed.

I can make an ankle taping before your kid misses 2 mins of play.

I can make saving your childs life easier by explaining a "rung bell" isnt normal, it can be deadly.

I can make wearing a fanny pack the new black.

I can help you, and your child, survive a heart attack.

I can look at a wrestler's pee and tell them how much water to drink

I can make an athlete bigger, faster, better

I can translate "doctorese" from "torn anterior talofibular ligament" into ankle sprain.

I went to college to EARN A DEGREE in more than just "water providing" but also injury prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation, administration, and overall problem listening.

And I do it because I love my athletes.

A
nd I love my profession.

Today, I might ice your knee, tomorrow I might save your life.

I hope I make a difference.

What do you make?

Reason 150: Hannah has a blog!

Sunday, November 6, 2011.

I would not be doing my job as an older sister if I didn't promote Hannah's new blog!

Reason 149: Halloween!

October 31, 2011.

Posted late.  Don't be alarmed- this is truly a post about Halloween.

I spent all of college HATING Halloween.  Like- volunteering to work because I wanted to be away from it.  In my opinion it was an excuse for girls to dress like skanks and college students to throw crazy parties. Dumb, right?  I didn't realize how much kids make the holiday awesome.

But this year we live in a REAL neighborhood and attend a FAMILY ward!  So Halloween definitely returned to its awesomeness.

The day before, I made Jason carve pumpkins with me.
His?  The beach and a hammock.
Mine?  The Grim Reaper of the Packers.  Systematically destroying all other NFL teams.

For Halloween, Jason dressed up as Indiana Jones.
Sexy, huh?
Thanks to the Fellow's for letting us borrow the sweet hat!

My little Hannah love was a hippie.
WAY COOL!
Looking good, sister.
Do your earlobes hurt after wearing those earrings?

Aaron was an old man.
But also kinda looks like Charlie Chaplain.
Cutie.

Aaron and Hannah were in St. George, but I had to share their adorable pictures.
Jason sat outside (it was a beautiful night) with the Indiana Jones theme song playing as he handed out candy.
I was cooking homemade pizza and almond poppyseed cupcakes.
I love that kid.  He is so awesome to get in the spirit.

Cheers to Halloween only getting better from here on out!
